SPEEDOMETER 7.10
GENERAL
Replace the speedometer if the unit is not working properly.
The instrument is not repairable. However, before replacing a
component, check that the problem is not caused by a loose
wire connection.
REMOVAL
1. Gain access to the back side of the dash panel. Detach
turn signals and mirrors (metric) from front fairing.
Remove fairing.
2. Remove odometer reset button from dash panel.
a. See Figure 7-57. Pry off plastic grommet from front
of odometer reset button.
b. See Figure 7-58. Remove odometer reset (3) from
back side of dash panel.
3. See Figure 7-59. Remove three screws and plastic
washers (1) holding dash panel to front fairing bracket.
Pull dash panel upward, but do not damage wiring.
4. See Figure 7-57. Remove two nuts (metric) and lock-
washers (1) from speedometer cover (3).
5. Slide speedometer cover (3) away from speedometer.
6. See Figure 7-60. Remove wires from speedometer. Pull
lamp (5) from bore.
7. Pull speedometer and attached odometer reset button
from front of dash panel.
8. Remove mounting gasket.
9. If necessary, replace speedometer wiring.
a. Remove fuel tank.
b. Cut cable straps on wiring harness. Detach wires at
plug connector. See Figure 7-61.
NOTE
Tachometer and speedometer wiring share a common con-
nector on the wiring harness.
