Section 2.1 Getting Started
This Section explains how to use the illuminator manual.
This manual gives detailed information about the use of the
INTERCEPT Illuminator. It complements the package inserts that
accompany the INTERCEPT Processing Sets. There are processing steps
before and after illumination that are not described in this manual, but are
described in the package insert for each processing set. Directions may
be slightly different for each blood product, so it is important to consult
the directions with the correct set.
The manual starts with a table of contents, which describes each chapter.
The table of contents for each chapter has detailed sections. Each
chapter is divided into sections that explain the illuminator function or
procedure, with photographs and screen images. Some chapters have
‘Questions and Answers’ at the end. The manual contains these chapters:
• Chapter 1 What the Illuminator Does
This explains what functions the illuminator performs, the indications for
use, contraindications, and summarizes all warnings and cautions that
are used throughout the manual.
• Chapter 2 How to Use this Manual
This explains how to use the manual and the symbols that are used in
the manual, on the illuminator and on the shipping carton.
• Chapter 3 Illuminator Description
This details the parts of the illuminator and the illuminator functions that
may be set for your laboratory, such as date format and language.
• Chapter 4 How to Use the Illuminator
This details the day-to-day operation of the instrument, explaining how
to perform illumination procedures.
• Chapter 5 Troubleshooting
This summarizes questions and answers found in each chapter and
troubleshooting messages and operator interventions.
