11.9.5 AES67 Guidelines
When connecting devices to route AES67 audio streams with your E-DANTE 64
card, the following general principles should be noted:
• AES67 uses IEEE1588-2008 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) to ensure
synchronization between devices. All networked devices, including your
network switch must support this standard.
• You need to disable any Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) switches, as
these will disrupt the synchronization of audio streams.
• All networked devices need to support multicast routing. The Dante
system defaults to multicast when routing AES67 streams.
• Multicast routing uses the Class D range of IP addresses (224.x.x.x –
239.x.x.x). For AES67 streams, chose an IP range that does not conflict
with other network traffic. Consult your network administrator if
necessary.
• It is recommended that Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP)
snooping is enabled on your network switch. This will avoid the
possibility of flooding your network.
