Operating in the Database Operational Mode
Operator's Manual 8-11
Induction time is defined as the beginning of the intubation process, immediately prior to preox-
ygenation or heavy sedation. An induction time must be set after the baseline is set for AUC to
display on-screen.
Induction time can be set the following ways:
As an event (see code 3 on Table6-1.) from the OR event list screen (current time only)
From the Database summary screen and the Induction time screen
Skin closure time represents the end of the procedure, immediately prior to the patient’s exit from
the operating room. It is important to enter the skin closure time because it triggers AUC to stop
calculating.
Skin closure time can be set the following ways:
As an event (see code 13 on Table6-1.) from the OR event list screen (current time only)
From the Database summary screen and the Skin closure time screen
WARNING:
For area under the curve (AUC) to calculate you must set left and right baselines prior to induction
in real-time or accept the auto-baseline value when prompted by the device (approximately 5
minutes after monitoring begins). Baselines should not be reentered at any other time or the
integrity of AUC will be compromised. Similarly, entering skin closure will cease calculation of AUC.
First alert (yes/no) indicates whether the INVOS™ system provided the first indication of a techni-
cal problem or physiological change in the patient that could potentially lead to an adverse
patient outcome. FIRST ALERT can be selected from the Database summary screen. When the
FIRST ALERT key is pressed, choose YES/NO using the navigation menu options.
8.5 Operating in the Database Operational Mode
When the INVOS™ system is in Database operational mode, the system will indicate that on the
Start screen (see Figure8-1.and Figure8-2.). Contact your representative or Covidien’s customer
service department for database activation instructions.
Note:
The Database operational mode setting is retained after the monitor is turned off and is restored when the
monitor is turned on. Database operational mode is set separately for two-channel and four-channel
operation.
