Calibrate Loop Impedance Testers
Use the Product Loop Impedance calibration function to calibrate loop testers
and multifunction installation testers.
XW Warning
To avoid electric shock, do not touch the L, PE, or N terminals
on the Product or DUT while performing a Loop Impedance
calibration. Line voltage is present on these leads during this
calibration.
To perform a Loop Impedance calibration:
1. Push .
2. Connect the DUT to the L, PE, and N terminals of the Product as shown in
Figure 44.
3. Push the Setup softkey and set the desired residual impedance correction
under Loop Impedance. See Select the Residual Impedance Correction
Mode in Calibrate Instruments for more information on this correction. When
set, push the EXIT softkey repeatedly to return to the main Line Impedance
display.
4. Push the Mode softkey. Then, use the cursor keys or rotary knob to highlight
Loop and select it by pushing the Select softkey or by pushing in the rotary
knob.
5. On the DUT, select the Loop Impedance function, test signal, and test
condition. Refer to the DUT manual for information on setting these variables.
6. Set the Product to the desired Z residual correction setting. Many DUTs can
be used with the COMP setting with good results. See Calibrate Instruments
for more information regarding the Z residual correction.
7. Check the series resistance setting on the Product. Ensure the value is
appropriate for this DUT setup. See Calibrate Instruments for more
information on the series resistance feature.
8. Adjust the Loop Impedance to the desired output by using the rotary knob or
or keys.
9. Push .
10. Push Start on the DUT.
11. When the DUT displays the measured line impedance, compare it to the
impedance displayed in the OUTPUT area of the Product display.
Note
When a new impedance is set on the Product, the resistance change
takes approximately 500 milliseconds.
12. Push to disconnect the output terminals from the DUT.
Use the Rescan function if necessary. Depending on the stability of the supplying
mains it is recommended to perform a Rescan measurement once every
15 minutes when performing Loop or Line Impedance calibrations.
