Perform Flash Class I and Flash Class II Tests on (PAT)
Portable Appliance Testers
PAT testers perform a Flash Class I test by applying a test voltage of 1.5 kV
nominal between the appliance test socket (L+N) and PE test terminals, and a
Flash Class II test by applying a test voltage of 3 kV nominal between the Flash
Probe and the appliance test socket (L+N) test terminals. Any leakage or
breakdown current flowing is detected and displayed, using the same leakage
current detection and measurement circuits for both the Class I and Class II
Flash tests. Therefore, PAT testers are generally calibrated for Flash leakage
current using only their Class I Flash test function. Use the following procedures
for Flash Class I and Class II voltage measurements, and leakage current
measurements:
To do a Flash Class I open circuit output voltage test:
1. Push .
2. Use the Mode softkey to select the Flash V Mode function.
3. Connect the Product and DUT as in Figures 57.
4. Select the function Flash Class I on the DUT.
5. Push the Test button on the DUT.
6. The DUT connects the test voltage between L+N and PE terminals.
7. The Product shows the reading of the DUT test voltage output.
8. Compare the reading on the display with the DUT test voltage specification.
