Multifunction Electrical Tester Calibrator
Use the Loop and Line Impedance Function
41
The Ground bond resistor function has protection against overloads. Total
electric power dissipated in the function is continuously measured and in the
case of overloading, an error message is shown. The current status of dissipated
power is indicated on the display in the main parameter field. The bar with Temp
label shows how close the function is to overloading. The empty bar means that
full loading is available, the blue part of the bar shows the percent of dissipated
power. This protection is also used in the next two functions, RCD and Loop/Line
Impedance.
With the output connected, you can adjust the resistance value with the rotary
knob or numeric keypad. Any new values set through the front panel takes
approximately 500 ms to appear on the output terminals. If during the
adjustment, the current or voltage exceeds acceptable limits, the output terminals
will be disconnected and an error message is displayed. If the set value should
exceed the upper range limit or lower range limit, the Product shows Value too
Large or Value too Small respectively.
Use the Ground Bond Resistance Open Function
To select an open condition on the terminals:
1. If not already selected, push to select the Ground Bond Resistance
function.
2. Push the Mode softkey.
3. Using the cursor keys or rotary knob, highlight Open and either push the
Select softkey or push in the rotary knob.
OPEN should show on the display as the output condition. The Open function
has a test voltage monitor and maximum measured value feature. The maximum
value can be reset at any time by pushing the Clear softkey. To leave the OPEN
terminal condition, select either the Resistance 2W or Resistance 4W mode of
operation from the Setup menu.
Use the Loop and Line Impedance Function
Note
When using the Loop/Line Impedance function, the Product relay-
cleaning procedure must be performed at periodic intervals. See
Clean the Ground Bond Resistance and Loop/Line Impedance
Relays and the 5322A Specifications.
For calibrating loop and line impedance functions of loop testers and
multifunction installation testers, the Product connects a resistance from 20 mΩ
to 1.7 kΩ between its output terminals and either the mains neutral or protective
earth power connection. See the 5322A Specifications that lists all of the
selectable resistance settings along with their maximum current and voltage
ratings.
Setting the output for loop impedance calibration is almost identical to that for line
impedance. The only difference is the connection between the DUT and the
Product.
