Removal and Replacement Procedures

DIMMs
To remove DIMMs:
1. Power down the server. See the Powering Down the Server section in this chapter.
2. Extend or remove the server from the rack. See the Preparation Procedures section in
this chapter.
3. Remove the access panel. See the Access Panel section in this chapter.
NOTE: The server ships with at least two DIMMs installed in DIMM slots 1A and 4A.
4. Open the DIMM slot latches

5. Remove the DIMM from the slot

CAUTION: To ensure proper configuration of DIMMs, refer to Chapter 3, “Installing Hardware
Options” in the Compaq ProLiant DL380 Generation 2 Server Setup and Installation Guide.
CAUTION: Use only Compaq DIMMs. DIMMs from other sources may adversely affect data
integrity.
IMPORTANT: DIMMs do not seat fully if turned the wrong way.
To replace a DIMM, align the DIMM with the slot and insert the DIMM firmly. When fully
seated, the DIMM slot latches lock into place.
