ProcessorUnitdescription
TheProcessorUnitisthecomputerthatcontrolstheEK80system.Itisavitalpartofthe
EK80Widebandscienticechosounder.TheProcessorUnitcontainstheoperational
software,andofferstheuserinterfacethatallowsyoutocontroltheEK80.Furthermore,
itoffersanumberofserialandEthernetlinesforcommunicationwithexternaldevices.
Inthispublication,thecomputerisreferredtoastheProcessorUnit.
Thecomputermustmeettheoperatingsystem
requirementsprovidedbyMicrosoft
®
.Thecomputer
mustalsoprovidethenecessaryinterfacefacilities
thatyourEK80needstocommunicatewithperipheral
systems.Thecomputermustbedesignedforrugged
use,andtheconstructionmustbeabletowithstandthevibrationsandmovementsofa
vessel.TheoperatingsystemmustbeMicrosoft
®

AhighqualityEthernetadapterisrequired.IfyouwishtoconnecttheProcessorUnit
totheship’snetwork,youneedtwoEthernetadapters.
TheProcessorUnitisnormallymountedonthebridgeorinascienticlaboratory.
Note
TheEthernetadaptercommunicatingwiththeWideBandTransceiver(WBT)mustoffer
aReceiveBuffersfunction.Thisparametermustbesettoitsmaximumvalueifmorethan
oneWideBandTransceiver(WBT)isused.
TheProcessorUnitisnotastandardpartoftheEK80delivery.Asuitablecomputermay
beprovidedwiththeEK80.TheProcessorUnitisdesignedforruggedmaritimeuse.
IthasbeencustomizedbyKongsbergMaritime.Exceptfromthefans,itcontainsno
movingparts.Thecomputerisbasedonacommercialdesign,butthesoftwareand
hardwarehavebeenspeciedbyKongsbergMaritimetosuittheEK80requirements.
Itissetupwithallnecessarysoftware.Consultyourlocaldealeroragentformore
information.
TheEK80designsupportstwodisplays.Thiscanbeapracticalsolution.Youcanplace
thetwodisplaysnexttoeachother.Youcanalsochoosetoplacetheseconddisplayat
anotherlocationonthevessel.
