Installingthetransducer(s)
Theinstallationofthetransducer(ortransducers)isakeytaskforsuccessfuluseof
theEK80Widebandscienticechosounder.Notonlywillyouneedtopenetratethe
vessel’shull,youmustalsotoselectaphysicallocationformaximumperformance
andminimumacousticandelectricnoise.
Prerequisites
Togetafulloverviewoftheinstallation,youneedallrelevantvesseldrawings.Youalso
needthedrawingsprovidedforeachtransducer.
Context
Necessaryinformationfortheinstallationofeachtransducercanbefoundintheend-user
documentationprovidedwiththetransducer.
Endusermanualsandsourcedrawings(normallyinAutoCadformat)canbedownloaded
fromourwebsite.

Procedure
1Determinethephysicallocationofthetransducer.
Thedecisionmustbebasedon:
•Thevesseldrawings
•Theshapeandpropertiesofthehull
Makesurethatallpossibleconsiderationsaremadetoreducenoise.
2Basedontheshapeofthetransducerhousing,andthemountingdevicesavailable,
determinetheinstallationmethod.
3Design,manufactureandmountthenecessaryfairing,installationblister,keelbox
and/ortankthatisrequiredtomountthetransducer.
4Design,manufactureandmountthesteelconduitforthetransducercable.
5Unpackthetransducerfromitstransportcrate.
6Positionthetransducerunderthemountinglocation.
7Pullthetransducercableupthroughthesteelconduit.
8Tightenthepackingnippleonthecableglandproperlytoavoidleaks.
9Mountthetransducer.
10Sealthetopofthesteelconduittopreventwaterleaks.
11ConnectthetransducercabletotheWideBandTransceiver(WBT).
12Ifyourvesselwilloperateinwaterswithalotofmarinegrowth,considerapplying
athinlayerofanti-foulingpainttothetransducerface.
