6.14.7 Alternator/fan belt replacement (38)
Figure 108
NOTE
When a new belt is installed, check the belt tension again after 20 hours of
engine operation.
To change alternator belt:
Loosen bolt (1) and bolt (3).
Loosen nut and bolt (4).
Move the alternator (2) in order to remove the belt (4).
Install new belt (83010129049610).
Adjust belt (5) to the required tension.
Tighten bolt (1) and bolt (3) to a torque of 22 Nm (194 lb in). Tighten nut and bolt (4) to a torque of 22 Nm (194 lb in).
The correct tension for a new belt is 400 N (90 lb) to 489 N (110 lb).
If the belt is too loose, vibration causes unnecessary wear on the belt and pulleys. A loose belt may slip enough to cause
overheating.
6.14.8 Engine Valve lash check (39)
The engine valve lash check must be performed by an authorized service workshop.
6.14.9 Turbocharger inspect (40)
A regular visual inspection of the turbocharger is recommended. Any fumes from the crankcase are filtered through the
air inlet system. Therefore, byproducts from oil and from combustion can collect in the turbocharger compressor housing.
Over time, this buildup can contribute to loss of engine power, increased black smoke and overall loss of engine
efficiency.
If the turbocharger fails during engine operation, damage to the turbocharger compressor wheel and/or to the engine
may occur. Damage to the pistons, the valves, and the cylinder head.
