4. Remove bolt (6).
5. Remove thermostat connection (5) and gasket (7) from thermostat housing (9).
6. Remove thermostat (8) from thermostat housing (9).
7. If necessary, follow step 7a through step 7f to remove the thermostat housing from the cylinder head.
a. Remove nuts (10) and bolts (11).
b. Loosen the hose clamp (14) and disconnect the hose assembly (15) from thermostat housing (9).
c. Remove thermostat housing (9) from the cylinder head.
d. Remove gasket (13) (not shown)
e. If necessary, remove studs (12) from the cylinder head. Note the position of studs for installation purposes.
f. If necessary, remove coolant temperature sensor (4) from thermostat housing (9).
8. Replace the thermostat (LMPE145206230).
Installing procedure:
1. Ensure that all components are clean and free from wear or damage. Replace the components that are worn or
damaged.
2. Ensure that the gasket surfaces of the cylinder head and the thermostat housing are clean and free from damage.
3. If necessary, follow step 3a through step 3h to install the thermostat housing to the cylinder head.
a. If necessary, install coolant temperature sensor (4) to thermostat housing (9).
b. If necessary, install studs (12) to the cylinder head. Ensure that the studs are installed into the correct
positions.
c. Tighten studs (12) to a torque of 10 Nm (89 lb in).
d. Position a new gasket (13) (LMPEU45996930) (not shown) onto the studs (12). Ensure that the gasket is
correctly orientated.
e. Install thermostat housing (9) onto the cylinder head.
f. Install nuts (10) and bolts (11) to thermostat housing (9).
g. Tighten nuts (10) and bolts (11) to a torque of 10 Nm (89 lb in).
h. Connect hose assembly (15) to thermostat housing (9). Tighten hose clamp (14) securely.
4. Check thermostat (8) for correct operation. If the thermostat is not operating correctly, the complete assembly must be
replaced.
5. Ensure that the gasket surfaces of thermostat housing (9) and thermostat connection (5) are clean and free from
damage.
6. Install thermostat (8) to thermostat housing (9). Ensure that the thermostat is correctly orientated and is seated
correctly in the recess of the thermostat housing.
7. Position a new gasket (7) (LMPEU45996051) onto the thermostat housing (9). Ensure that the gasket is correctly
orientated.
8. Install thermostat connection (5) onto thermostat housing (9). Ensure that the thermostat connection is correctly
orientated.
9. Install bolt (6) finger tight.
10. Install harness assembly (3) to coolant temperature sensor (4). Install clip (1) and install bolt (2) finger tight.
11. Tighten bolt (2) and bolt (6) to a torque of 15 Nm (133 lb in).
12. Connect the hose assembly to thermostat connection (1). Tighten the hose clamp securely.
13. Fill the cooling system with coolant.
