STARTING AND DRIVING
ENGINE BRAKE
The engine brake controls vehicle speed
using engine compression and exhaust
braking. Engine braking reduces wear
on the foundation brakes and helps a
driver maintain control of the vehicle.
Also, engine braking works in unison
with the vehicle's cruise control system.
To activate the engine brake, move the
right hand steering stalk, to the rst
(LOW) position. The rst position
activates the engine brake unit for 40%
power. The second position (MED)
provides 70% power. The third position
(HIGH) provides 100% power. The
engine brake switch can be in either 1st
or 2nd ON position during speed control
operations, but the brake functions only
if no fuel is requested by vehicle
management and control (V-MAC) IV
and engine speed (RPM) is greater than
900 RPM. To disengage the brake, move
the stalk to the OFF position, or press
the accelerator pedal (AP).
The last stalk position (B+) is the
maximum engine brake position.

1 Engine Brake Stalk
When the engine brake is activated the
Engine Brake icon displays in the lower,
right corner of the Driver Information
display. The engine brake icon and the
level selected are shown.
The engine brake levels are:
• OFF - The engine brake is not
activated.
• LOW - The engine brake is activated
at the lowest power.
• MED - The engine brake is activated
to the next highest or mid-range
power.
• HIGH - The engine brake is activated
to the highest standard power.

Cruise Control Brake
NOTE
For additional information on the cruise
control, refer to the Cruise Control section.
A cruise control brake is available. This
option allows for downhill braking using
the engine brake, while the cruise
control is engaged. The cruise control
must be activated in unison with the
engine brake.
To change the downhill cruise control
braking speed, use the cruise control
braking speed button. This button is
