CHAPTER 3 CPU MODULE FUNCTIONS
3
3.1 Function List
For details on the special relay (SM) and special register (SD) used for each function, refer to the following.
MELSEC-L CPU Module User's Manual (Hardware Design, Maintenance and Inspection)
Item Description Reference
Latch data backup to standard ROM Backs up latch data such as device data and error history without using a battery. Page 159, Section 3.27
Writing/reading device data to/from
standard ROM
Writes/reads device data to/from the standard ROM using an instruction. Page 164, Section 3.28
Module model name read Reads the model name of a module connected. Page 165, Section 3.29
CPU module change function with SD
memory card
Saves the data in a CPU module to an SD memory card when changing the CPU
module.
Page 166, Section 3.30
Clock function Controls the clock data of the CPU module. Page 180, Section 3.31
Battery-life prolonging function Prolongs a battery life by limiting the data to be latched to clock data only. Page 182, Section 3.32
Data logging function Collects data from the specified device of a CPU module at a specified timing.

Built-in I/O function ⎯
MELSEC-L CPU Module
User's Manual (Built-In I/O
Function)
General-purpose input function Obtains ON and OFF signals via 16 built-in external input devices.
General-purpose output function Outputs ON and OFF signals via eight built-in external input devices.
Interrupt input function
Executes an interrupt program using a built-in external input or output signal as a
trigger.
Pulse catch function
Catches pulse signals with the ON time shorter than the scan time that the general-
purpose input function cannot catch.
Positioning function Controls a drive unit by outputting pulses from an external I/O connector.
High-speed counter function
Counts data such as pulses that are input to the external I/O connectors. Also
outputs ON/OFF data by comparing the counted values and measures the ON-
pulse width of the input pulse.
Built-in Ethernet function ⎯

Ethernet Function)
Connection with programming tool and
GOT
Connection with a programming tool and GOT using a hub is allowed.
Direct connection with programming
tool (simple connection)
Connection with a programming tool is allowed only by one Ethernet cable.
Communication using the MC protocol Device data of the CPU module can be read and written using the MC protocol.
Socket communication function
Sends and receives any given data by TCP/UDP to and from devices connected on
Ethernet using a dedicated instruction.
Clock setting function (SNTP client)
Automatically sets the clock by obtaining a clock data from the clock information
server connected on the LAN.
File transfer function (FTP) Reads and writes files to and from a target device using the server of FTP.
Remote password Checks a remote password upon request of a connection.
Built-in CC-Link function Allows communications via the built-in CC-Link.
