Solenoid Operation
When “1WD/TURF” mode is selected on the AWD
Switch, power is sent to an electrical solenoid mounted
on the Transaxle case. When powered, the solenoid
plunger extends to move a shift fork inside the Transaxle.
The shift fork slides a dog gear away from the side gear
that is part of the planetary differential assembly,
unlocking the rear differential. The rear drive shafts are
now dependent on the differential, allowing for tighter
turns.
When “Differential-Lock” is selected on the switch, power
is removed from the electrical solenoid allowing the
solenoid plunger to retract. Spring tension moves the
shift fork back into place and engages the engagement
dog to the side gear that is part of the planetary
differential assembly. This locks the rear differential as a
solid rear axle, increasing traction.
