REAR DRIVE SHAFT
REAR DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL
1. Perform Steps 1-5 of Rear Bearing Carrier Removal
(Rear Bearing Carrier Removal, page 5.28). Be sure
Main Power Connector is disconnected (under the
seat).
2. Remove upper bearing carrier bolt and separate
bearing carrier from upper A-arm.
3. Carefully slide drive shaft out by pulling bearing
carrier outward and tipping it down to remove the
shaft.
4. Remove rear drive shaft using short, sharp jerks to
free the circlip from the transmission.
5. Refer to Drive Shaft / CV Joint Handling Tips, page
5.33 for drive shaft service.
REAR DRIVE SHAFT INSTALLATION
1. Install a new circlip on the end of the drive shaft and
apply an anti-seize compound to the splines.
2. Align the splines of the drive shaft with the
transmission and reinstall the drive shaft. Use a
rubber mallet to tap on the outboard end of the drive
shaft if necessary.
3. Install the drive shaft into the rear bearing carrier.
4. Perform the “Rear Bearing Carrier Installation”
procedure to properly reassemble the vehicle.
