A memory card is needed in the following cases:
1. Saving parameters
Parameters are saved on the memory card and can simply be copied onto the new
CU305 if the component needs to be replaced.
2. Firmware update
It is easy to perform a firmware update using a memory card.
3. License carrier
The license is stored on the memory card.
Note
The CU305 can be operated without the memory card. The memory card only needs to
be inserted into the CU305 because it is the license carrier for the Safety functions.

Danger to life due to software manipulation when using exchangeable storage media
Storing files on exchangeable storage media poses an increased risk of infection, e.g. with
viruses and malware. Incorrect parameter assignment can cause machines to malfunction,
which can lead to injuries or death.
• Protect files stored on exchangeable storage media from malicious software using
appropriate protection measures, e.g. virus scanners.
