7. Upgrading Firmware
From time to time, firmware updates may be made available. The current firmware version of
the multiviewer can be checked in the browser interface Help > About menu, see section
4.10.
The firmware is supplied as a single compressed file that contains the firmware and software
for all of the cards fitted in the multiviewer.
Firmware from version 3.0.17 has the firmware version number as part of the filename
however Version 2 firmware filenames do not contain a version number and always have the
same name (see below for example filenames).
Example firmware filenames:
Firmware version 3.0.22 (end of filename indicates the firmware version):
instmv_snell_3.0.22.mv3
Firmware version 2.X.XX (filename is always as shown below):
instmv_snell.tar.bz2
1. Use a client FTP program such as “FileZilla” or “SmartFTP” to open an FTP
connection to the multiviewer.
Default Multiviewer IP Address: ftp://192.168.0.120
(ftp://192.168.0.121 for second CPU in an MV-32 dual frame)
Username: root
Password: smv
2. Copy the compressed firmware file to the root folder of the multiviewer. The file
transfer will begin.
3. When the upload is complete, reboot the frame to enable the updates to take effect.
This will take several minutes to complete, depending on the nature of the updates.
• Before updating the multiviewer firmware check that it is compatible with the video
input cards that are fitted in the multiviewer, see section 2.1.4 for compatibility
information.
• If the multiviewer is running firmware version 3.0.16 or lower the upgrade file must
be renamed “instmv_snell.tar.bz2” before it is copied to the Multiviewer
Root folder. This ensures that the multiviewer recognizes the file as a firmware
upgrade. See the Help > About menu item for details of the firmware version
currently running on the multiviewer (see section 4.10.1).
• The IP addresses of the frame and the PC must be in the same range. If
necessary, the IP address of the frame can be changed using the setup utility.
Dual CPU MV-32 Multiviewers only:
• When updating a dual CPU MV-32 multiviewer the CPU cards have different IP
addresses and the firmware file must be copied to both of the CPU cards. Each
CPU must be rebooted and both CPU cards can be updated at the same time.
• When updating a dual CPU MV-32 multiviewer the CPU cards can be updated
separately if required as the CPU cards operate independently of each other.
