9.1.1 Removing a Hard Disk Drive
1. Shut down and power off the system.
See Section 6.1 “Powering Off the System.”
2. Remove the cover and attach a wrist strap.
See Chapter 7.
3. Determine which drive you need to remove.
If you need to remove the bottom disk drive, follow the steps to remove the top disk
drive first.
Note The position of a disk drive determines its SCSI target address. The bottom
drive automatically becomes SCSI address 3 at power up. The top drive becomes
SCSI address 1 at power up. SCSI termination for internal drives is provided
automatically by the SCSI backplane.
Caution Once a hard drive has been installed in the SPARCstation 5 system, do
not change the position of that drive.
4. A latch is located at the rear of the drive. Press the plastic latch to release the drive
handle.
