Calibrating the MS
Calibrating and Tuning the MS
62 TSQ Altis, Quantis, and Fortis Hardware Manual Thermo Scientific
Check Mass Calibration
Use the Check Mass Calibration option regularly (Figure 28).
To check the mass position and resolution, the Tune application uses the following calibration
masses:
Positive Ion Mode: m/z 69, 622, and 1522
•Negative Ion Mode: m/z 69, 602, and 1634
This evaluation repeats for FWHM peak widths of 0.2 Da (TSQ Altis MS only), 0.4 Da, and
0.7 Da, and for quadrupoles Q1 and Q3.
Figure 30 shows the error range boxes for the EMRS calibrants. The y axis is the error range of
the peak widths from the expected peak width of 0.7 Da, and the x axis is the error range of
the mass positions from the expected mass position (in Da). The MS measures the peak width
and mass position over a large number of scans. For the evaluation to pass, the error ranges
boxes must be within ±100 Da of the expected peak width and mass positions.
If the check mass calibration fails, run “Mass Calibration.
