GRE tunnels
USER GUIDE
231
where <name> is any string beginning with the letter t. One of the following values are normally
used: tgprs0, tadsl0, tisdn0, tun0 … tun8. The default value is tun0: if you don‟t specify the
user interface name, the default value will be used (generic tunX).
In order to configure the physical address of the starting of the tunnel:
set gre tunnel 0 tunnel-source <ipaddr>
is used to indicate directly the IP source of the tunnel, or
set gre tunnel 0 tunnel-source <ifname>
is used to indicate that the source address must be the one associated with the specified interface.
The physical address of the end of the tunnel (the one of the remote router):
set gre tunnel 0 tunnel-destination <ipaddr>
The tunnel is usually associated with an address by using the command:
set gre tunnel 0 tunnel-address <ipaddr/N>
in addition, it is possible to establish the address of the other end of the tunnel:
set gre tunnel 0 tunnel-peer <ipaddr/N>
For example, in order to establish a GRE tunnel between the local GPRS interface and the remote
host 89.119.108.108, it is possible to create the tgprs0 tunnel by using the following CLI
commands:
set gre tunnel 0 name tgprs0
set gre tunnel 0 tunnel-source 217.201.146.129
set gre tunnel 0 tunnel-destination 89.119.108.108
set gre tunnel 0 tunnel-address 3.3.3.1/30
set gre tunnel 0 tunnel-peer 3.3.3.2/30
set gre tunnel 0 on
The status of the tunnel can be displayed by using the command:
ip addr list dev tgprs0
root@Imola> ip addr list dev tgprs0
20: tun0@NONE: <POINTOPOINT,NOARP,UP> mtu 1476 qdisc noqueue
link/gre 217.201.146.129 peer 89.119.108.108
inet 3.3.3.1 peer 3.3.3.2/30 scope global tun0
root@Imola>
By using the command ifconfig it is possible to examine the status and counters of the interface.
Here follows the display of an active tunnel:
root@Imola> ifconfig tgprs0
tun0 Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr 0A-0A-08-4D-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00
