Support Breath
Patient triggering results in the delivery of a patient breath (spontaneous or
pressure support). The ventilator maintains airway pressure (as in Figure E-3
during the inspiratory phase at PEEP level. If pressure support is selected, the
ventilator maintains an elevated support pressure (b in Figure E-3 during the
inspiratory phase). Breaths can only be initiated after inspiration has ended and
the minimum exhalation time has elapsed.
