Chapter 8: Patient Set-Up
8.2.3 Using Patient Headphones
Patients must wear ear protection, such as headphones or earplugs, during treatment to

8.3 Patient Set-Up
Accurate patient placement is crucial to precise IMRT delivery. This chapter explains the
functionality and use of all the components of the MRIdian® system patient handling system
and provides step-by-step instructions for accurately positioning your patient for treatment
using the Patient Handling System.
The Patient Handling System consists of the patien

treatment control panel. The weight limit for the patient couch is 200 kg (440 lbs). The
MRIdian® patient handling system assists in aligning the patient to the treatment position.
The lasers in the MRIdian system define a point (Virtual Isocenter) outside the machine a set
distance in the IEC Y direction from the machine isocenter. Internally the PHS stores the couch
position when at virtual isocenter either by restoring it from a plan or by acquiring the
position at which the couch is located at the time of moving to the machine isocenter.
The operator interacts with the couch through one of
two Couch Control Panels (CCP) located
inside the treatment room or through the Treatment Control Panel (TCP) located at the
