Chapter 3: System Coordinates
Chapter 3: System Coordinates
3.1 MRIdian® System Coordinates
The MRIdian system uses 3-dimensional coordinate systems to fully specify the geometric
location of the data throughout the various systems. This includes: cobalt sources, multi-leaf
collimator positions, radiation beam trajectories, couch location and MR, CT, PET images. The
coordinates’ systems are described in Cartesian coordinates.
3.1.1 Direction Definitions
The front of the machine is defined as the face of the machine where the couch
enters the machine
The back of the machine is defined as the face opposite the front of the machine
The top of the machine is the face of the machine closest to the ceiling
The bottom of the machine is the face of the machine closest to the floor
The left of the machine is on the observers left when the observer is standing
facing the front of the machine
The right of the machine is on the observers right when the observer is standing
facing the front of the machine
