ViewRay Inc. MRIdian® system L-0009 Release 4.5 59
Chapter 2: Safety Information and
When the sources are retracted and locked into the shielding heads and in the Off position,
radiation exposure in the treatment room is reduced to background levels, and the room is
safe for cleaning and patient set-up activity. When the sources are moved to the Beam Hold
position, they are still retracted, but not locked.
Special tools are required to access the source. These t
ools are provided by ViewRay and
secured by a trustworthy and responsible person designated by the site.
ALERT: When the sources are moved to the Beam On position for treatment,
high levels of radioactivity are present and no one except the patient being
tr
eated should be in the treatment room.
Verify that the patient identification and approved treatment plan match
prior to starting therapy to avoid unnecessary radiation exposure and the
possible irradiation of healthy tissue.
2.19.2 Exposure Control for Operators
Radiation dose is determined by the amount of time you are exposed to a radioactive source,
the distance you are from that radioactive source, and any intervening shielding.
By minimizing the time you are near a radioactive source, using shielding, and maintaining
dis
tance from the source, your total radiation exposure will remain well within the acceptable
and safe level.
Consult your facility’s Radiation Safety Officer if you want more information about the
principles of
radiation exposure and dose.
2.19.3 Audible Radiation Alert
Each delivery station is equipped with an audible radiation alert that beeps whenever the
radiation beam is on.
