Chapter 2: Safety Information and
Sites should identify and plan emergency medical procedures that are safe in the presence
of the magnetic field, so the appropriate and necessary treatment can be given to a
patient who feels ill or is injured during an examination.
2.21 Unintended Radiation (Stuck Source) Expo-
sure
When the MRIdian® RT Control system detects a stuck source, the operator receives this
system message on the user interface.
The following events are initiated by the system:
1. Sources are moved to the OFF position by a dedicated pneumatic system.
2. Patient table retracts from the bore.
3. Gantry rotates and places the head with the movement fault into the 90
0
position where gravity can assist in moving the source into the off position.
4. Multi-Leaf Collimators close.
5. The Auxiliary Radiation Shield closes.
6. A system inhibit interlock is enabled to prevent treatment.
After the system retracts the patient table, do the following:
