Chapter 2: Safety Information and
2.7.1 MR Safety Screening
The facility must develop and use an MR Screening Form to ensure all
electrically conducting objects are removed and to identify any conditions, due
t
o professional activity, past medical history, present medical state, or
otherwise, that would prohibit a person from safely entering the MR
environment of the treatment room. ALL individuals must complete the
screening BEFORE entering the MR environment. "Pre-screening Prior to
Imaging or Treatment on the MRIdian® System” on page 37.
2.7.2 Magnetic Field Emergency Procedures
Before working with the MRIdian® system familiarize yourself with the
location and function of ALL the emergency switches.
Know the
difference between the E-Stop button, which stops table movements
and move
s the sources in emergency situations, and the Magnet
Emergency Discharge Button, which is ONLY used in the event that
someone is trapped inside the bore of the magnet by a metal object.
See “Emergency Response Plans” on page 60 and "Using the E-Stop in
an Emergency” on page 62.
2.7.3 Devices Contraindicated for MRI
Even devices labeled MRI-Safe might be capable of causing
injury if the manufacturers instructions for positioning
electrically conducting leads are not followed.
Do not use resuscitation devices such as defibrillators or oxygen bottles which
are not MR-safe in the treatment room.
Do not use transport trolleys, moveable beds, stretchers or other transport
devices that consist of magnetizable parts. All such equipment has to be
marked MR-Safe by its manufacturer.
Do not take any electronic devices into the treatment room, operators console,
or equipment room, such as cell phones, pagers, or radio-frequency ID devices.
Do not wear or carry any magnetizable objects, for example, watches, pens,
scissors, clipboards, tag clips, credit cards, etc., into the treatment room.
