10.8 Source Tracking
The three

Cobalt sources are calibrated when they are loaded. The system keeps track of
the source strength for each source and uses it in all dose calculations and optimizations.
The calibration of each
60
Cobalt source is the responsibility of each individual institution’s
qualified medical physicist. In the United States, calibration should be performed according to
established protocols such as AAPM’s TG-51 “Protocol for clinical reference dosimetry of high-
energy photon and electron beams”.
ONLY CERTIFIED PERSONNEL ARE AUTHORIZED TO MAKE CHANGES ON THE
SOURCE TRACKING INTERFACE.
