Chapter 2: Safety Information and Alerts
58 MRIdian® system L-0009 Release 4.5 ViewRay Inc.
Do not use damaged phantoms.
Avoid skin contact with phantom fluid.
Change contaminated clothing immediately.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke.
Ensure phantom fluid does not enter the waste water.
Dispose of phantom fluid in compliance with local and national regulations.
Follow the instructions in the Material Safety Data Sheet that was included with
the phantom.
2.18.2 Risks Due to Aerosol Formation
If phantom fluid has escaped, inhalable droplets (aerosols) containing nickel may form if there
is a fire or if atomization has been caused by strong air currents. Carcinogenic effects cannot
be ruled out if these aerosols are absorbed by the body.
2.19 Radiation Precautions
The MRIdian® system delivers ionizing radiation
during treatment delivery.
Extended exposure to the radiation beam can cause
s
erious injury or death. The treatment room
must be
unoccupied except for the patient being treated
during the BEAM ON state.
2.19.1 Radiation Safety
The MRIdian system uses 3 sealed sources of
60
Cobalt for the delivery of radiation therapy.
Each source has an activity level of 12,000-15,000 curies (Ci) at the time of installation. See
“General MRIdian® System Safety” on page 23.
