Chapter 8. Point of Sale (POS)
Sales Files
Point of Sale information is stored and processed using several files, the Sales
Master File (SM0.D) and a work file for every port that will be processing POS
transactions (WSMpp.D) These files will be built already for you when your
system arrives, ready for you to begin entering POS transactions. Each file
contains very specific information and is used by the system when performing
certain functions.
The Sales Master File (SM0.D) contains all POS transactions (sales, returns,
quotes, orders, etc.) entered during the day. Transactions are updated to this file
after each ticket is printed at POS. It holds information as shown below.
SM0.D
Sales Master File
Transaction heading
- transaction number
- batch number
- customer number
- transaction date
- assigned rep code
- written by rep code
- etc.
Line item detail
- line number
- item number
- quantity
- description
- costs & prices
- etc.
Then during the day end process, a Transaction Register and Transaction Dump
are printed showing all transactions entered for the day (or since the last day end
update was performed). The day end update deletes all sales and returns, freeing
up space in the file for the next day’s transactions, while it retains quotes and
orders.
The work files (WSMpp.D) are used by each port (pp=port number) when an
operator is building a ticket. As the ticket is finished, it is updated to the Sales
Master File and the work file is cleared out, ready to process another transaction.
They contain the exact same information as the Sales Master File except for only
one transaction at a time.
