198 Chapter 3
Mode
One Port Insertion Loss Measurement
Mode
Level: 2nd Segment Right
Sets the power level, for the 2
nd
segment to the Right of the Center segment. This key is only available when
2
nd
has been selected with the Segments key.
Avg Limits
Accesses menu keys that enable you to control and set the average limits. These are
minimum and maximum values that the average measured insertion loss is compared
against. Average insertion loss is the average of the measured insertion loss values across
the frequency range being swept. Mathematically, it is calculated by summing the
insertion loss values at each frequency point and then dividing that sum by 256. (There are
256 sweep points.)
The average insertion loss is useful when you are sweeping only within the pass band or
only within the stop band of a filter, or a device such as a cable or attenuator. The
frequency range should have a fairly flat response across the range. An average value has
less significance if you are sweeping a frequency range that includes both the pass band
and the stop band of a filter.
The maximum and minimum values that you specify are compared to the calculated
average. Pass/fail results are shown on the average insertion loss metric panel. You can
turn this display panel off by selecting
View/Display, Avg Insertion Loss (Off).
