Sharpen
The “Sharpen” funcon aempts to create a crisper and cleaner image with more dened lines, and is useful
for when an image is just slightly out of focus and would benet from a small adjustment. Note that sharpen
does not clear up out of focus images, so it’s always beer to take a correctly focused image (or use EDF if
needing greater depth of focus) before looking to use the “Sharpen” funcon.
The “Sharpen” funcon has two dierent methods.
UnSharp Mark... - Contrary to it’s odd sounding name, the “UnSharp Mask...” method is actually a sharpen-
ing method. The name comes from the process it uses to create a sharper image by taking an unsharp posive
image with a negave of the original image and merging the two in order to create addional contrast in the
posive image.
The “Radius” slider refers to the size of the edges to be enhanced. Larger sengs tend to cause halos around
edges, so, use sparingly to ensure ne details are enhanced without ghosng. Also, threshold and radius are
related in eect, and thus, lowering one will allow the other to be increased if needed.
