Sharpen
The “Sharpen” funcon aempts to create a crisper and cleaner image with more dened lines, and is useful
for when an image is just slightly out of focus and would benet from a small adjustment. Note that sharpen
does not clear up out of focus images, so its always beer to take a correctly focused image (or use EDF if
needing greater depth of focus) before looking to use the “Sharpen” funcon.
The “Sharpen” funcon has two dierent methods.
UnSharp Mark... - Contrary to its odd sounding name, the “UnSharp Mask...” method is actually a sharpen-
ing method. The name comes from the process it uses to create a sharper image by taking an unsharp posive
image with a negave of the original image and merging the two in order to create addional contrast in the
posive image.
The “Radius” slider refers to the size of the edges to be enhanced. Larger sengs tend to cause halos around
edges, so, use sparingly to ensure ne details are enhanced without ghosng. Also, threshold and radius are
related in eect, and thus, lowering one will allow the other to be increased if needed.
