Chapter 5 — File Management
5-1 Introduction
This chapter describes the file management features of the VNA Master and describes the
File menu. The submenus under this menu allow you to save, recall, copy, and delete files in
the internal memory or an external USB flash drive.
5-2 File Types
Following are some filename extensions that are used in the VNA Master. Some file types are
option dependent and may not appear in your instrument.
*.afp AM/FM/PM analyzer measurements, filename.afp
*.cs Channel Scanner measurements, filename.cs
*.csv Text file with Comma Separated Values (CSV), filename.csv
*.hipm High Accuracy Power Meter measurements, filename.hipm
*.ia Interference Analyzer measurements, filename.ia
*.jpg JPEG images, filename.jpg
*.lim Limit lines, filename.lim
(Limit lines are available only in Spectrum Analyzer mode.)
*.mna Measurements, filename.mna
*.s2p S2P (SnP), 2-Port scattering parameters measurements, filename.s2p
*.spa Spectrum Analyzer measurements, filename.spa
*.stp Setups, filename.stp
*.txt Text file with tab separated values, filename.txt
Note
S2P is a standard ASCII text file format that is used for scattering parameters from
a 2-Port measurement. This is a subset of SnP (where n equals the number of
ports). An S2P file can be used as input for signal analysis. The VNA Master
generates S2P files even for one-port measurements by filling the unused columns
with zeros.
The CSV and Text files contain setup information and final formatted data that are
shown on the instrument display screen. This file information includes any
post-processing that was done on the data (smoothing, trace math, time domain,
and so forth). These files contain the data for any traces that are displayed,
including the memory traces. They also contain the markers that are turned on
when the file is saved.
