Coldtemperatureoperation
Coldweatherconditionscausespecialproblems.Duringtheseconditions,yourmachinewillrequirespecialattention
topreventseriousdamage.Coldweathermaintenancewillextendtheservicelifeofyourmachine.
Tostartandoperateyourmachineduringcoldambienttemperatures,observethefollowingrecommendation/instruc-
tions.
Batteryandelectricalcomponents:
•
Ensurethebatteriesareatfullcharge.
•
Ifyouaddwatertothebatteries,chargethebatteriesorruntheengineforapproximatelytwohourstoprevent
batteryfreezinginambienttemperaturesbelow0°C(32°F).
•
Inspectthebatterycablesandterminals.Cleanandcoateachterminalwithacorrosionpreventionproduct.
Engine:
•
Useengineoilwiththecorrectviscosityfortheambienttemperaturerange.
•
Allowlongerwarmupperiodstobringthemachineandcomponentsuptooperatingtemperature.
•
WARNING
Explosionhazard!
DONOTuseetherstartinguid.Explosion,death,seriouspersonalinjury,orseriousenginedam-
agecouldoccur.
Failuretocomplycouldresultindeathorseriousinjury.

Pre-heatsystem,engineglowplugsarestandard.TurnthekeyswitchtotheONposition,theenginepre-heatlamp
illuminatesastheheaterconditionsindrawnair.Waitforthelamptostopilluminatingbeforestartingtheengine.
Iftheenginefailstostartaftertwoattempts,allowthebatterytorecoverfor4to5minutesbeforerepeatingthe
procedure.

Electricalshockhazard!
NEVERuseanungroundedorinadequateextensioncord.Alwaysuseafunctional(three-wire),
groundedextensioncordratedfortheappropriatevoltageandcurrent(15A),withcircuitprotection
ofeitherastandardcircuitbreakeroraGroundFaultCircuitInterrupter(GFCI).
Failuretocomplycouldresultindeathorseriousinjury.

Ifequipped,plugtheengineblockheaterinto110Voutletforuptofourhoursbeforestartingtheengine.Unplug
theblockheaterbeforecontinuingwiththecoldweatherstartprocedure.
Fuelsystem:
•
Checkwithyourdealerforthecorrectcoldweatherfuel.
•
Checkforwaterinthefuelsystem.Inspectthewaterseparatorevery50hoursofoperationorwhenthewaterin
fuelwarningmessageappears.Ifwaterisfound,checkthefueltank.
•
Fillthefueltankaftereachoperatingdaytopreventcondensationinthefueltankandwaterenteringthefuelsystem.
Coolingsystem
•
Useamixtureof50%ethyleneglycoland50%water.Thismixtureprotectstheenginecoolingsystemto-34°C
(-29°F).
Machinestartupincoldweather
Machinesattemperaturesof-15°C(5°F)orlower:
•
Donotwaitlongerthan30secondsaftertheenginepre-heatlamphasstoppedilluminatingbeforecrankingthe
engine.Ifthedelayislonger,thestartupcycleisabortedandtheprocessmustberestarted.
