CHAMP-AV8 (VPX6-462) HARDWARE USERS MANUAL CURTISS-WRIGHT
1-24 PROPRIETARY 826448 VERSION 5 MARCH 2015
CABLES AND REAR TRANSITION MODULES
The CHAMP-AV8 features a high-density front panel connector on air-cooled versions of the
board. The connector provides access to two EIA-232 serial ports, two Gigabit Ethernet ports
(subject to the Ethernet built-time option), one USB port, and a board reset input. A cable is
available that breaks out the signals to a number of standard connectors. See
“CBL-462-FPL-000 (903075-000)” on page 2-6 for additional details.
A Rear Transition Module (RTM) is available (part number RTM6-462-000) to provide easy
access to the backplane I/O signals. The RTM is a 6U x 80mm (IEEE 1101.10 compliant)
module with a rear face plate and injector/ejector handles that plugs into the rear of the VPX
backplane to make connections with the I/O signals on the CHAMP-AV8 VPX connectors. The
RTM provides connectors for Gigabit Ethernet (2), EIA-232 (4), EIA-422/485 (2), and
USB/eSATA (2).
The RTM also features a number of switches and headers for access to other CHAMP-AV8
signals and I/O ports. The RTM is intended for development purposes and is not tested or
warranted for deployment. See "RTM6-462-000 Connections" on page 3-11 for more
information.
RTC/CMOS RAM BACKUP POWER
Backup power is only supported by the optional VBAT from the backplane.
There are 256 bytes of static RAM within each PCH device that provide real time clock
time-keeping functions as well as general purpose storage. Backup power is only supported
by the optional VBAT from the backplane. Connect an external 3V power source to the
backplane P1-VBAT input (P1-G3). No write protection is provided for this memory.
The CHAMP-AV8 uses a backup power storage system to prolong viability of the RTC during
power down and brown outs. This backup power storage is an integrated solution that provides
backup energy storage and power management for systems requiring power bridging and/or
secondary power.
The capacity of the backup storage device is 50 µAh. The current draw of the RTC circuit
(located in the Cougar Point PCH) with power removed is 6 µA, at room temperature.
Therefore, the battery life when the board is powered down at room temperature is
approximately 5.83 hours.
INTERRUPT CONTROLLER
The interrupt control module provides the required control and monitoring function to
consolidate and route the external and internal interrupts sources, and drives the interrupt
input to the processors through the serial IRQ protocol, as well as four discrete IRQ outputs
(IRQ5-8).
The interrupt controller is comprised of four logical blocks. The first block provides source
routing, grouping, status, and enable/disable, and masking provisions for each interrupt
source. The second block implements SERIRQ protocol. The interrupts from the controller can
be dispatched to the processor using this block. A third block provides LPC bus module access
I/F. This interface is used by the processor to access registers residing in the interrupt
controller. The fourth block implements a messaging interface to communicate interrupt
events to the processor. Figure 1.12 provides a top-level interrupt controller block diagram.
