CHAMP-AV8 (VPX6-462) HARDWARE USER’S MANUAL CURTISS-WRIGHT
3-4 PROPRIETARY 826448 VERSION 5 MARCH 2015
CHOOSE A VPX SLOT LOCATION
If you want the CHAMP-AV8 to be the System Controller (SYSCON), install it in a slot that has
a jumper allowing it to be the System Controller slot. If you are using another card as the
SYSCON, the CHAMP-AV8 may be installed in any unoccupied slot.
QUICK INSTALLATION AND POWER UP PROCEDURE
After configuring the backplane jumpers, perform the following steps:
1. With power off, install the CHAMP-AV8 into the chassis. Ensure the VPX connectors are
fully engaged.
2. Connect the front panel cable (CBL-462-FPL-000) to the front panel port (air-cooled var-
iants only) and the computer that will run the terminal emulator software.
3. Run the terminal emulation program. Set the serial port for 115200 baud, 8 data bits,
no parity, 1 stop bit, and XON/XOFF flow control.
4. Apply power to the chassis. The red LED DS41 on the back of the card will come on and
then turn off to indicate a successful load of the CF-FPGA. The front panel red FAIL LED
will turn off. The board will initialize, displaying the BIOS splash screen.
At power-up, the front panel red Fail LED should turn off (see “LED Diagnostics” on page
3-14). If the red Fail LED fails to turn off, turn the power off then check the seating of the card
and verify that the chassis supplies the proper backplane power (+12 V and +3.3 V).
DETAILED INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
I
NSERT THE BASECARD IN THE CHASSIS
Ensure that the chassis power is turned off before inserting the card.
Air-Cooled
L000/100
CHAMP-AV8
An air-cooled basecard is equipped with a faceplate compliant with IEEE 1101.10. The large
ejectors/injectors on this faceplate facilitate insertion of the basecard into the chassis. Always
use the injectors to seat the card in the chassis. Never press on the front panel to seat the
card. Pressing on the front panel can cause the front panel to bow enough to damage the
board and its components.
Once the basecard is inserted in the chassis, secure it by tightening the screws at the top and
bottom of the faceplate.
For air-cooled boards, ensure the chassis is capable of generating minimal air flow required
for proper cooling: 20CFM for L0 variants or 24CFM for L100 variants.
Please refer to the CHAMPtools Software User’s Manual for detailed software installation
procedures.
