Safety instructions in case of fire
Firefighting instructions
1.Cut off power
Cut offpower to the battery if it can be done safely.
2.Rescue and alarm
Rescue people that are hurt or are in danger. Move to
a safe location. Activate the fire alarm.
3.Call the emergency number
Report Li-ionbattery fire by calling the emergency
number.
4.Extinguish the fire, if it is safe
Li-ion battery fire is difficult to extinguish - leave it to
the fire brigade.
Li-ion battery fire causes toxic smoke. Fire may also
cause splashes around the battery. Use proper
firefighter personal protective equipment against heat,
splashes, and toxic smoke.
Only if it is safe, use fire extinguisher to cool down the
battery or limit fire from spreading to materials nearby.
5.Guide
Guide the fire brigade to the area.
Fire extinguishers for lithium-ion batteries
Lithium-ion battery fire should be extinguishedwith
specially designed fire extinguishers with strong
cooling effect. Cooling down the cells canslow down
heat transferto other cells and preventthermal
runaway spread in the other cells.
Fire extinguishers with class AB can be used for
preventing external fire from spreading to nearby
materials, but capability of putting out Li-ion battery fire
is limited.
If specially designed fire extinguisher is not
available,large amount of water should be used to
cool down the battery and to extinguish the batteryfire.
