To Check/Replace The Overload
Protector
1. Disconnectelectricalsupplytorefrigerator.
2. Removebalewireholdingrelayto
compressor.
3. Removerelayassemblyfromcompressor.
4. Useatheadedscrewdrivertogentlypry
capacitorfromrelayassembly.
5. Usesmall,at-bladedscrewdriverto
disconnectleadstorelayassembly.(Note:
Onsomemodelsyouwillhavetoremove
balewireandcover,togainaccesstorelay
andoverloadprotector.)
6. Useohmmetertocheckresistancebetween
tabterminalandfemalepinterminal.
Overloadprotectorshouldhaveless
than1ohmofresistanceatnormalroom
temperature.
7. Ifohmreadingsareoutofrange,installnew
Starter/OverloadAssembly.
NOTE
TheOverloadProtectorisbuiltintothe
StarterOverloadAssembly.
8.Reversethisproceduretore-assemble.
NOTE
WhenreplacingleadstothePTCRelay,ensure
thelockingtabssnapbackintotheterminal.
Run Capacitor
Theruncapacitorhaspermanentlyattached
terminalswhichareconnectedtorelayterminals2
and3.
NOTE
SomemodelsarenotequippedwithaRun
capacitor.
To Check/Replace The Run Capacitor
1. Disconnectelectricalsupplytorefrigerator.
2. Removebalewireholdingrelayto
compressor.
2. Usesmall,at-bladedscrewdriverto
disconnectleadstorelayassembly.
3. Useat-bladedscrewdrivertogently
prycapacitorfromrelayassembly.
4. Dischargecapacitorbyshortingacross
terminalswith500K(1watt)resistorforone
minute.
5. Useohmmetersetonthe“Ohms times
1000”scale(ifavailable),tocheckresistance
acrosscapacitorwireterminals.
• Theneedleshouldjumptowardszeroohms
andquicklymovebacktoinnity.
• Iftheneedledoesnotmove,thecapacitoris
open.
• Iftheneedlereadsaconstantvalueator
nearzeroohms,thecapacitorisshortedout.
• Iftheneedlejumpstowardzeroandthen
movesbacktoconstanthighresistance(not
innity),thecapacitorhasahighresistance
leak.
6. Ifohmreadingsareoutofrange,replace
capacitor.
7. Reverseprocedurestore-assemble.
Compressor Start Circuit
Whenthecompressorcircuitisrstenergized,the
solidstaterelayhaslowresistance(3-12ohms),
andboththerunandstartwindingsareenergized
tostartthecompressor.Theruncapacitorisbeing
bypassedbytherelay,andithasaminorfunction
duringcompressorstarting(SeeFigureC3).
