Thecondenserwillbe“warmtocool”,depending

Whenrefrigerantisadded,thefrostpatternwill
improve,thesuctionanddischargepressures
willrise,thecondenserwillbecomehotandthe
wattagewillincrease.
Inthecaseofalowsiderefrigerantleakresulting
incompletelossofrefrigerant,thecompressor
willrunbutwillnotrefrigerate.Suctionpressure
willdropbelowatmosphericpressureandairand
moisturewillbedrawnintothesystemsaturating
thelterdrier.
Ifthereisreasontobelievethesystemhas
operatedforaconsiderablelengthoftimewithno
refrigerantandtheleakoccurredinthelowsideof
thesystem,excessiveamountsofmoisturemay
haveenteredthesystem.Insuchcasesthetwo
stageserviceDryerFilterpartnumber5303918288
andvacuumprocedurelistedunderRefrigerant
LeaksonpageE15needtobefollowedtoprevent
repetitiveservice.
Ifaslightunderchargeofrefrigerantisindicated
andnoleakcanbefoundafterathoroughleak
test,thechargecanbecorrectedwithoutchanging
thecompressor.
Ifahighsideleakislocatedandsomerefrigerant
remainsinthesystemitisnotnecessarytochange
thecompressor.
Testing for Refrigerant Leaks
Ifthesystemisdiagnosedasshortofrefrigerant
andthesystemhasnotbeenrecentlyopened,
thereisprobablyaleakinthesystem.Adding
refrigerantwithoutrstlocatingandrepairing
theleakorreplacingthecomponentwillnot
permanentlycorrectthedifculty.Theleakmust
befound.Sufcientrefrigerantmayhaveescaped
tomakeitimpossibletoleaktesteffectively.
Insuchcases,adda¼”linepiercingvalveto
thecompressorprocesstube.Addsufcient
refrigerantvaportoincreasethepressureto40to
50lb.persq.in.Checkthelowsideforleaks.Run
thecompressor2or3minutesandcheckthehigh
sideforleaks.RecoverrefrigerantusinganEPA
approvedrecoverysystem.
Checking for Internal (Hot
Tube) Leaks
Beforecheckingforinternalleaks,checkall
accessiblesystemcomponentsandjointsforleaks.
Ifaninternalhottubeleakissuspected,itmustbe
conrmed.Usethefollowingprocedure:
1. RecoverrefrigerantbyusingEPAapproved
recoverysystem.
2. Aftersystem refrigerantiscompletely
recovered,disconnectdrierfromhottube.
Pinchoffandsolderendofhottubeclosed.
3. Cutlinefromcondensertohottubeand
soldera¼”charginghosettingtoopenend
ofhottubeorputcompressionttingontube.
4.Connectpressuregaugeandaccessvalve
tohottubeandpressurizeto250psigusing
drynitrogenorcarbondioxide.
NOTE
Thelinepiercingvalve(clamp-ontype)shouldbe
usedfortestpurposesonly.Itmustberemoved
fromsystemafterithasserveditspurpose.
WARNING
Never pressurize with oxygen. never open a
high pressure tank unless it is equipped with
a pressure regulator. never put high pressure
on dome of compressor – it could explode.
make sure gauge, HOSES, AND ALL fittings
are in good condition and do not leak.
5. Leavepressureonhottubefor24hours.Any
dropinpressureisindicationofleak.
If dry nitrogen or carbon dioxide is not
available, follow steps 1 through 3 above, then
steps 4 and 5 below:
4. Connectgaugestocharginghosettings.
Pullvacuumonhottube.
5. Leavevacuumoneachsideofsystemfor24
hours.Anylossofvacuumindicatesleak.
