4.2 Mapping mode
4.2.1 Overview
Mapping mode gives you fast, accurate, high-resolution mobile scanning of environments where drone
autonomy is not needed. Hovermap can be used as a mobile scanner (attached to a drone, vehicle, or
pole), lowered in a cage, or mounted to a backpack.
4.2.2 Mapping mode functions
Provides SLAM-based mobile mapping.
Carry Hovermap or mount it to a drone or vehicle.
Use with our backpack, cage, or vehicle mount accessories.
Real-time point streaming.
4.2.3 Mapping mode operational checklist
4.2.3.1 Step 1: Drone inspection
Check the Velodyne sensor to make sure that it is clean and serviceable.
Securely mount Hovermap to the Zoe.
Ensure that the LiDAR sensor can rotate freely.
Connect the following:
The two Wi-Fi antennas
The power cable
The serial cable
Offset the antennas by 90 degrees. For best results position one antenna vertically, and the other
horizontally.
If using the Samsung tablet, connect the tablet to the controller using the supplied USB-A to USB-
C cable.
Conduct the standard Hovermap-Zoe checks, including:
