4.3 Pilot Assist mode
4.3.1 Overview
Pilot Assist mode is the first advanced autonomy level available for Hovermap. It provides safe, line of
sight flight, with LiDAR-based, omnidirectional collision avoidance and GPS-denied stability control. In
this section, we will walk through the complete setup of the system, and then walk through the steps
required to get it in the air.
4.3.2 Pilot Assist mode functions
Lidar-based omnidirectional collision avoidance
GPS-denied position hold and velocity control
Enables safe line-of-sight flight indoors, underground or close to structures
Includes all Mapping mode features
Obstacle avoidance
4.3.3 Pilot Assist mode operational checklist
4.3.3.1 Step 1: Drone inspection
Check the Velodyne sensor to make sure that it is clean and serviceable.
Securely mount Hovermap to the Zoe.
Ensure that the LiDAR sensor can rotate freely.
Connect the following:
The two Wi-Fi antennas
The power cable
The serial cable
Offset the antennas by 90 degrees. For best results position one antenna vertically, and the other
horizontally.
If using the Samsung tablet, connect the tablet to the controller using the supplied USB-A to USB-
C cable.
