44 System Maintenance
Clean the Printer
The cleaning sleeve removes dust and particles from cards before they enter the printer.
However, you also need to clean the inside of the printer on a regular schedule to maintain print
quality. The cleaning cards remove debris from the inside of the printer and from the transport
rollers.
Two different cleaning cards are available to clean the printer:
 A double-sided, adhesive-coated (sticky) cleaning card that removes particles that result from
the retransfer process. Use the card if you notice diminished print quality, such as a repeating
pattern of spots on the card.
 A double-sided, isopropanol-coated cleaning card. An isopropanol-coated cleaning card is
included in each ink ribbon package.
Clean the printer:
 Each time you install a new roll of ink ribbon. Refer to “Replace the Ink Ribbon” on page 32.
OR
 After every 500 cards processed.
OR
 If you notice particles on completed cards, or if print quality diminishes.
You might need to run a cleaning card more often depending on your environment.
Use the cleaning cards to do the following:
 Clean the Printhead Cam Rollers on page 45
 Clean the Inside of the Printer on page 46
Keep additional cleaning supplies on hand to clean the printer when needed. Refer
to the printers Installation and Administrators Guide to order additional cleaning
cards.
