Drilling and tapping cycles
3.10.4 Multiple drilling cycle. Basic operation
The machining steps in this cycle are as follows:
1. If the spindle is working in open loop (RPM or CSS mode) the CNC stops the spindle and
performs a home search on the spindle (Io).
2. If the operation has been programmed with another tool, the CNC will change the tool and will
move to the change position if so required by the machine.
3. The CNC starts the live tool at the selected speed and in the indicated direction.
4. Orients the spindle at the angular position for the first hole (indicated by
).
5. The tool approaches in rapid up to the starting point, keeping the safety distance selected
according to axes X and Z.
6. Drilling loop. The steps are repeated, penetrating each time the amount indicated by K and
, up to the depth L. defines the drilling peck and K the reduction factor of that peck.
The first drilling peck will be , the second one "K", The third one "K (K)" and so on;
in other words, from the second peck on, the new peck will be the product of the K factor
times the previous peck.
After every drill pass, the tool moves back an “H” distance. Then it quickly approaches up
to a "C" distance from the previous penetration; if "C" has not been defined, the tool
approaches up to 1 mm from the previous penetration.

7. Dwell t at the bottom of the hole.
8. Fast backwards to the approach point.
9. Depending on the value assigned to parameter N (number of holes), the CNC repeats the
following steps N times.
The spindle moves to the next drilling point (angular increment ).
Repeats the drilling movements indicated in steps 6, 7 and 8.
10.Once the operation or cycle has ended, the tool will return to the position it occupied when calling
the cycle; i.e. to the point where [START] was pressed.
When executing an entire part, combination of operations or cycles, the tool does not return to
that point after executing each cycle.
11.The CNC stops the spindle, but it keeps the machining conditions set; tool (T), feedrate of the
axes (F) and spindle speed (S).
