3.8.1 Geometry definition
Type of tapping.
When changing the type of threading, the CNC changes the icon and shows the corresponding help
screen.
Coordinates of the first point (Xi, Zi) and of the last point (Xf, Zf).
The coordinates are defined one by one. After placing the cursor on the coordinates of the axes to
be defined, the value is entered in one of the following ways.
Entering the value manually. Key in the desired value and press [ENTER].
Assign the current machine position.
Jog the axis with the handwheel or the JOG keys up to the desired point. Press [RECALL] so
the selected data assumes the value shown in the top right window and press [ENTER].
The top right window shows the tool position at all times.
Instead of defining the end point of the thread, the thread can also be programmed by defining the
angle and the Z increment. This option is valid for all threads and thread repairs, except for face
threads. To enable this option, set the general machine parameter COCYF6 (P153)=1.
Standard threads.
Up to 6 types of standard threads may be selected. See "3.8.2 Standard threads" on page 124.
When selecting one of them, the pitch and depth of the thread are calculated automatically; if none
is selected, the pitch and depth of the thread must be defined.
Defining the thread as number of threads per inch.
In any threading cycle, the thread pitch may be entered as number of threads per inch. This may
be done regardless of whether it is working in millimeters or in inches.
To define the thread as number of threads per inch, instead of selecting the standard thread, select
a free thread and press [ENTER]. In the following data, use the [-] key, select "Threads/inch" and
press [ENTER]. Then, place the cursor on the P data, key in the desired value and press [ENTER].
Total depth of the thread (H).
The total depth must be programmed in radius and with a positive value. To define that value, place
the cursor on this data, key in the desired value and press [ENTER].
Number of entries (N).
To define that value, place the cursor on this data, key in the desired value and press [ENTER].
To select the type of tapping, place the cursor over this icon and press the two-color key.
