Accuracy
For scientific work, there are two kinds of figures, accurate figures (the values
of which are precisely known) and inaccurate figures (figures that carry a mea-
surement uncertainty). Measurements always carry a measurement uncertain-
ty. Each gage has a measuring device error, and people perform
measurements in different ways (human error). In everyday language, the term
accuracy is often equated with precision. However, accuracy and precision are
two different things.
In measurement technology, the term "accuracy" is rather vague and meaning-
less compared to the terms Trueness and Precision. In the international stan-
