Chapter 11. Hardware Management Console
and Support Elements
The Hardware Management Console (HMC) supports many functions and tasks to extend the
management capabilities of z13s servers. When tasks are performed on the HMC, the
commands are sent to one or more Support Elements (SEs), which then issue commands to
their central processor complexes (CPCs) or IBM z BladeCenter Extension (zBX).
This chapter addresses the HMC and SE in general, and adds appropriate information for
HMCs that manage ensembles with the IBM z Unified Resource Manager.
