What is the Grid Sequence function?
Thegridsequencefunctionletsyoucreatephrases
suchasdrumpatternsbyenteringnotesonagrid.
Evenifyou’renotcomfortablerecordingthedrums
fromakeyboard,thismethodallowsyoutoeasily
createdrumpatterns.
What is the grid?
Let’sthinkofan8‐beatmeasureasanemptygrid.First
we’lluseverticallinestoindicateeachofthe8thnotes.
Sinceourexamplehasonemeasure,we’lldraweight
verticallines.
Nextwe’llusehorizontallinestoindicatethenote
numbers(differentinstrumentalsounds).Sincewe’ re
goingtousefourdruminst
ruments,we’
lldrawfour
horizontallines.
We’llusea“+”symboltoindicateeachintersection
betweenaverticalandhorizontalline.Each“+”
symbolindicatesagridlocation.Thefollowing
illustrationshowsanemptygridforone8‐beat
measure.
Inourexample,we’llusethisgridtoenterthe8‐beat
one‐measuredrumpattern
shownbelow.
Theillustrationbelowshowshowwecanusethegrid

Recording with the Grid Sequence
function
Let’susetheGridSequencefunctiontocreateasimple
drumpattern.
Note: WhenyourecordusingtheGridSequence
function,eachnote’svelocityvalueandduration(note
length)arerecordedatafixedvaluespecifiedby“Init
Vel”and“InitDur”respectively.Ifyouwanttocreate
changesinthesevalues,you’llneedtoeditthemafter
recording.
Youcan’tusetheGridSeque n cefu nct iontoturna
gridnoteon/offwhileasongisplayingor being
recorded.Youmustfirststopplaybackor
recording.

WhentheGridSequencefunctionisturnedon,the
Loopfunctionwillturnon.
Note: TheLOOPbuttonwillnotlight‐upwhenthe
GridSequencefunctionturnson.Whenyouexitthe
GridSequencefunction,Loopwillremainon,and
theLOOPbuttonwilllight‐up.
WhentheGridSequencefunctionturnson,the
displaywillshowascreenthatletsyouspecifythe
measuresoverwhichtheloo
pwillrepeat,andthe
quantizationsetting(“LpEnd”and“Q”).
Forthisexample,set“LpEnd”to002.
Bydefault,theloopsettingwillbetheloopsetting
(“LoopM***‐***”)thatwasspecifiedwhenyou
turnedtheLoopfunctionon.Ifyouwanttochange
theloopsta

setting.
Themeasuresthatwillbeloopedcanbe
changedintheGridSequencefunctionsettingscreen.
