18 CLEANING, CARE 240
18.2 Checks and maintenance steps for winter operation
Info
If the motorcycle is used in the winter, salt can be expected on the roads. Precautions need to be taken against road salt corrosion.
If the vehicle was operated in road salt, clean it with cold water after riding. Warm water intensifies the effects of salt.

Clean the motorcycle. ( p. 238)
Clean the brake system.
Info
After EVERY trip on salted roads, thoroughly clean the brake calipers and brake
linings after they have cooled down while they are installed; use cold water and
dry them well.
After riding on salted roads, thoroughly wash the motorcycle with cold water and
dry it well.
Treat the engine, swingarm and all other bright and zinc-plated parts (except for the
brake discs) with a wax-based corrosion inhibitor.
Info
Corrosion inhibitor is not permitted to come in contact with the brake discs as
this would greatly reduce the braking force.
Clean the chain. ( p. 172)
