•  Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See 
“Power off the server” on page 14.
•  If the server is installed in a rack, slide the server out on its rack slide rails to gain access to the top cover, 
or remove the server from the rack. See “Remove the server from rack” on page 124.

Procedure
Step 1.  Prepare your server. 
a.  Remove the top cover. See “Remove the top cover” on page 225.
b.  If a network adapter is installed on the front I/O expansion board, remove it. See “Remove a 
network adapter” on page 179.
Step 2.  Disconnect cables that are connected to the front I/O expansion board.
Step 3.  Unfasten the five screws from the front I/O expansion board, and remove it from the chassis.

After you finish 
•  Install a replacement unit. See “Install the front I/O expansion board” on page 249.
•  If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and use 
any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
