A40-footbatterytemperaturesensorcableisshippedwithyourdevice.Thisthree-wirecablecarriesavoltagesignal
tothepowersupplyfromasensorelementwhichneedstobemountedincloseproximitytothestoragebattery.
V oltageisproportionaltothebatterytemperatureandisusedbydiagnosticcircuitryinthepowersupplymodule.
The40-footcablecanbeextendedtoatotallengthof190feetusing50-footextensions(Motorolapartnumber

Thesensingelementofthetemperaturesensorneedstobemountedsothatitdetectstheactualbatterytemperature
(ortheambienttemperatureascloseaspossibletothebatteriesbeingcharged).Therearetwoexamplesofmounting:

Usecabletiestoattachthesensingcabletothepositive(ornegative)powercable.Aminimumoftwocable
tiesshouldbeused(spaced6inchesapart),withoneofthecabletiesnotmorethan2inchesfromthesensing
element.Thesensingelementitselfshouldbenotmorethan2inchesfromthebatterypostwherethepower
cableconnects.SeeFigure3-5.

Attachthesensingcabletoanexistingbatterytraysupportbracketusingcabletiesornylonloopstrapsoftheproper
size.Thesensingelementshouldbeplacedsothatitisnotmorethan2inchesfromthesurfaceofthebatteries
beingmonitored.Aminimumoftwocabletiesand/orloopstrapsshouldbeusedtosecurethesensingcabletothe
bracket.Thecableties/loopstrapsshouldbeplacednomorethan6inchesapartwithoneplacednomorethan
